Welcome to your GreenWise CommunityTM.
“Oakland Park est. 1844 will be reminiscent of the small town for which it is named, a settlement founded over one hundred fifty years ago on the south shore of Lake Apopka. Unlike some contemporary residential communities that focus on privacy and distance from neighbors, Oakland Park is designed to build and provide a real community where people interact and relate to each other.
One of the best ways to get back to a better understanding of a real community is to get to know our neighbors. We tend to care more, adapt better and learn to get along more easily. This friendliness is encouraged when communities are walkable. This means people need places to walk to, giving residents natural opportunities to meet one another. In Oakland Park the mail boxes will be located in small postal stations with tables and chairs where people can visit and socialize. They’ll be able to walk to the community’s general store and perhaps restaurants, or take a leisurely stroll down to Lake Brim. There will be trails in addition to sidewalks interconnecting the entire community, including the West Orange Trail and the waterfront ecosystem. This trail system will encourage our residents to get out and about—to rollerblade, ride bicycles or walk to various parks and meeting places. Homes will have big, livable front porches creating a transitional space between the privacy of indoors and the more social nature of the wide sidewalks beyond. In Oakland Park there will be so many ways people can gain a sense of involvement and feel comfortable being out in the community as a part of life. Strict architectural guidelines will make sure that the homes of Oakland Park blend almost seamlessly into the surrounding communities of Oakland and Winter Garden.
While Oakland Park is certified as a Green Development, it was envisioned as a green community long before “green” became popular. Because this has been part of our culture from day one, it is ingrained in everything we do. Oakland Park is a beautiful community designed to foster naturally evolving relationships that give people the sense of belonging once found in small towns all across the country. Many people miss this from their youth. Other people have never experienced it, but have always dreamed of it. And Oakland Park will be the kind of small town where together they can live it.”
