Oakland Park, est. 1844, embraces the history of its Central Florida location, the preservation and enhancement of its environment, and especially the comfort, health, and well-being of its residents.
History Native Americans and pioneers. Railroads and citrus groves. Boom to bust and back again. Few new communities can ever claim the rich sense of history that permeates the very soil from which Oakland Park springs. Named for the original settlement built here in 1844, the new Oakland Park promises to give its 21st century settlers a feeling of having ties to a colorful past, and roots from which to create a meaningful future in a genuine small-town atmosphere.
Environment The community of Oakland Park encompasses approximately 258 acres of land stretching from the shores of Lake Apopka south to Oakland Avenue. Much of what makes Oakland Park feel like a naturally occurring community is a steadfast commitment to preserving and enhancing the beautiful Old Florida feel of the land. As would have been the case over a century ago, earthmoving has been kept to a minimum. The community follows the natural grade of the land, which slopes up from the shoreline of Lake Apopka, providing lake views for many of the homes near the lake. Magnificent live oaks have been preserved and relocated throughout the community.
Health Oakland Park will embody a lifestyle that fosters health, wellness and community. A lifestyle based on David H. Murdock’s passion for healthy living. As chairman of the board for Castle & Cooke, Mr. Murdock’s vision on health and wellness has become essential to the success of Castle & Cooke’s new communities. His active involvement in such projects as the Dole Nutrition Institute, the North Carolina Research Campus, and the California Wellbeing Institute underscore his dedication to the principles of healthy living. Oakland Park will be no different. Designed with an abundance of open space, pathways, trails, parks, community garden and recreational areas, Oakland Park entices its residents to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle. Whether you’re walking, jogging, biking, or meeting neighbors at The Union Club, you and your family can engage in a variety of healthy and fun activities.
